GEM! Today is the day! MCND are back with their 6th mini album ‘X10’, and I had the immense pleasure of chatting with them during this exclusive interview about the new adventure and the inspirations behind their latest work.

MCND are a dynamic five-member South Korean boy group under TOP Media. The lineup includes Castle J, BIC, Minjae, Huijun, and Win. They introduced themselves to the world with their pre-debut single “TOP GANG” on January 2, 2020, and made their official debut on February 27, 2020, with the powerful track “ICE AGE.” The acronym MCND stands for “Music Creates New Dream,” reflecting their goal to inspire and connect through their music. Fast forward to today 21st of May, where MCND published their 6th mini album ‘X10’!

‘X10’, the title for the album and the title song, is a Western-style of hip hop, which shows the differentiated genre and style of MCND once more as the last title song.
MCND’s teamwork over the powerful music expresses how MCND shows no hesitation in working their way towards their goals and contains their story in a more laid-back mood.

This isn’t the first time I’ve had the honor of meeting them. Our previous interview gave me a glimpse into their dynamic personalities and unyielding passion, and their visit to London was nothing short of fantastic. I am incredibly proud of how far they’ve come and excited for what this new album brings.

But before we dive into the interview, here’s a special message from MCND to all of you!

Davide: Hi MCND, it’s fantastic to reconnect with you all! The last time we met was during the ODD VENTURE tour in January, and you guys were absolutely amazing. How have you been since then? How’s life?

MCND: Don’t move, Freeze! MCND Hello, Davide K-POP! It’s been a while since the ODD VENTURE tour. We finished our Europe tour and prepared for our comeback right away.

Davide: For those who might be new to MCND, could each of you please introduce yourselves and share something funny or interesting about yourselves?

Castle J: I am the MCND leader and the eldest Castle J I am the main rapper. We’ll hit your hearts with great teamwork!

BIC: I am BIC, I am the main dancer. We’ll aim straight for your hearts as the group MCND! 🎯

MINJAE: I am a dancer and vocalist, Minjae! I’m practising guitar these days. I really want to practice hard and show it to GEM.

HUIJUN: I am a vocalist of MCND, Huijun! We tried many different things in this album. Please listen to it a lot. 

WIN: I am the maknae (youngest) of MCND, Win. I’ll do X10! I’ll do it. Please show a lot of interest.

Davide: Congratulations on your upcoming 6th Mini Album X10 release on May 21st! How does it feel to have new music coming out?

MCND: We have prepared a lot for this comeback. This album has our own stories behind so please look forward to and enjoy our new version of TOP GANG.

Davide: Could you tell us about the inspiration behind the new album and the overall theme you aimed to convey through it?

MCND: The album title “ODD-VENTURE” is made by putting ODD and ADVENTURE together. The overall theme is going on an odd adventure to get to the centre of the target, ‘X10(Goal), which is the leading track of our album.

Davide: Can you share some insights into the leading track of the album? What’s the story or message behind it?

Castle J: In this album, X10 is the song that shows how five of us overcome obstacles as a team. It conveys how our passion and strong teamwork lead us towards the centre of the target, ‘X10(Goal) in the odd-venture.

Davide: Tell us about the lead music video accompanying the album. Any behind-the-scenes stories or memorable moments during filming?

HUIJUN: We were able to film a more powerful choreography scene from the unexpected rain during the music video filming.

Davide: Each of you, do you have a favourite track from the album? If so, what makes it special to you?

BIC: I think TOP GANG Vol.2 is the most touching because our members wrote the lyrics.

Davide: With the release of the new album, can fans expect a new tour soon? Do any hints or plans you can share with us?

MINJAE: We will go on a tour as soon as we get a chance and will work harder this year, so please support us and look forward to our upcoming events.

Davide: Is there a special message you’d like to convey to your fans, known as GEM, around the world?

Castle J: GEMS health is a priority, always be healthy and happy. Please give MCND lots of love and we will meet you as soon as possible!

Davide: Between the last tour and working on this new album, did you manage to take a break or have a holiday? If so, what did you do or where did you go to relax?

WIN: During the break, I did not go on a vacation, particularly. I worked hard and focused on writing and producing music when I had spare time.

Davide: What do you hope GEM will take away from listening to your new album? Is there a particular emotion or message you want them to connect with?

Castle J: Since the theme is ‘TEAMWORK’, we wish GEM could feel that they are part of the team, and feel a strong bond with MCND.

Davide: Is there a specific artist you’d love to collaborate with in the future?

BIC: I would love to work with all artists if I had a chance.

WIN: I do not have a specific artist in mind. I actually really want to perform an MCND unit stage in the near future.

Davide: Do you have any favourite K-pop songs at the moment?

MINJAE & HUIJIN: Our favourite song is, obviously, X10 at the moment.
