Remember that electrifying energy from VANNER’s “CAPTURE THE FLAG”? Well, get ready for another explosion! The boys are back with their third mini-album, “BURN,” and the title track, “Automatic,” is a disco-infused powerhouse that’ll have you dancing all night.
While the group is currently missing their beloved member Sungkook, who is serving his military duties, Yeonggwang, Gon, Taehwan, and Hyesung are more determined than ever to deliver an unforgettable performance. Their chemistry and passion shine through in every note of “BURN.” Remember when I talked to VANNER last time? It feels like just yesterday! I’m super excited to catch up with them for this new album.
Before we dive into our exclusive interview, let’s hear a special message from the boys themselves.
VANNER Interview Proposal with Davide K-pop, London
Interview Questions:
Davide: Hello VANNER, so nice to chat with you again. We connected a few months ago and discussed your previous mini album “Capture The Flag”. How have you been since the last time we spoke? And for those who might be new to you, can you please introduce yourselves?
Taehwan: Hello, I’m Taehwan, the leader and main vocalist of VANNER! We’ve been holding solo concerts and meeting global fans a lot. I’ve also been consistently working out! Gon: Hi, I’m Gon, the main dancer and all-rounder of VANNER. Since our last album, I’ve been focusing on finishing our solo concert and preparing for our comeback. Hyesung: Hello! I’m Hyesung, in charge of dance and vocals in VANNER! It’s truly an honor to meet you all again after “Capture The Flag”! Lately, I’ve been preparing and practicing every day with excitement as we approach the release of our 3rd mini-album! Yeonggwang: I’m Yeonggwang, the youngest member of VANNER. We made our comeback with “JACKPOT” and held a solo concert, allowing us to communicate a lot with our fans. We’ve also been preparing for our comeback.

Davide:It’s very nice to see you again, we are here today to talk about your new mini-album BURN. What is the overall concept or theme behind the album “BURN”?
Taehwan: I can describe it as a story about youth and passion. We depicted the process of overcoming the struggles that occur within it. Hyesung: With the keyword “youth,” we captured the passion, countless worries, and pure aspects of youth in the album. We want to show you how we purely enjoy being on stage as well! We hope for your great interest!
Davide:Is there a particular track on the album that you’re especially proud of or that holds a special meaning to you? Hyesung: The last track of this mini-album, “Be Together,” holds a special meaning. It’s the last song we worked on together with Sungkook before he temporarily left the team to fulfil his military duty. Yeonggwang: In this album, we have a song called “Blossom,” which was written for us by my role model, Lee Gi-kwang. Because of that, it’s the song I feel the most affection for.

Davide:What message do you hope to convey to your fans through this album?
Taehwan: I want to convey the message that our passion for the stage and our youth with our fans will never end. Gon: I think this album will tell the story of VANNER’s growth. It contains the message that, during that growth process, we were able to endure tough times because of VVS and our members.
Davide:Your previous album was well-received by fans globally. What has been the most rewarding aspect of seeing the fans’ reaction to “Capture the Flag”? How has your musical style evolved since your last release?
Gon: We emphasised the keyword “We cannot lose” to conquer the flag of victory with our fans, no matter what trials we face. In this music style, we incorporated natural processes of youth that anyone can relate to, and we worked hard to include trendier movements and sounds.
Davide:Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals for VANNER? Are there any specific genres you’d like to explore?
Hyesung: VANNER’s long-term goal and the biggest goal is to never forget our pure love for the stage. We want to grow as artists who continue to develop while holding onto that passion. Musically, our goal is to become a progressive group that challenges our limits by trying various styles of music without confining ourselves to a specific framework. Yeonggwang: We recently covered Charlie Puth’s song “I Don’t Think That I Like Her” and released it as a new track. This time, we want to promote VANNER in various countries abroad. Since we respect and love all music, we want to tackle any genre of song.

Davide:Are there any plans for a tour to promote the new album, especially for international fans, including those in London?
Hyesung: Our fans always send us passionate support. So, if the conditions allow, I’d love to hold a concert right now wherever it is! To show our gratitude to our overseas fans and to promote VANNER further, we covered Charlie Puth’s “I Don’t Think That I Like Her” and released it as an album! For now, we will focus on our album activities and work hard to deliver amazing performances.
Davide: Who are your biggest musical inspirations, and are there any artists you’d like to collaborate with in the future?
Taehwan: Bruno Mars and Eric Benét. I was heavily influenced by them during my time studying practical music, and I copied their work a lot. If I could collaborate with anyone, I would choose Bruno Mars. Gon: I’ve drawn musical inspiration from Jungkook of BTS and Taemin of SHINee. Just the fact of collaborating with any artist would be a great honor. Hyesung: Honestly, I feel like I get the most musical inspiration from our fans. I think about what kind of music can make our fans feel passionate. How can we engage them more and enjoy the stage together? As I work on music thinking about these things, the answers come to me. This is also conveyed in our performances, allowing us to create a stage that resonates more with our fans. Yeonggwang: I’ve gained a lot of inspiration from Highlight. If given the opportunity, I would love to share the stage with Lee Gi-kwang.
Davide:What do you like to do in your spare time when you’re not promoting music?
Taehwan: I want to go see a musical, which I love, and also meet up with friends to eat something delicious. Gon: I’d like to relax by traveling or playing games. Hyesung: I want to go on a trip with my family. Yeonggwang: In my leisure time, I want to express a lot of art by painting alone.
Davide:How did you spend your summer? Did you travel anywhere or have any memorable experiences? Taehwan: I think of the cultural activities I did together with the members. Especially the day we visited the Seoul Botanic Garden. It was really hot, but seeing the beautiful plants and bringing some home made me feel good. Yeonggwang: While VANNER was preparing for our summer comeback and taking on many schedules, we had a performance on my birthday where we got to meet our fans and be on stage. It was enjoyable to celebrate my birthday with the fans, and being able to participate in the performance made it an unforgettable birthday for me.

Davide:What kind of interactions do you enjoy having with your fans, and are there any memorable fan experiences you’d like to share? Do you have any special message for them?
Taehwan: There are times when fans create something over a long period of time or for several days and gift it to us. Those moments really touch my heart. I feel that someone is dedicating their time and effort for me, which motivates me to keep going. Thank you for being with us and for your love, VVS! Gon: I enjoy exchanging looks with fans, where we support and believe in each other through our eyes. Hyesung: I think the fans who cheer the loudest and react the most during performances leave the biggest impression on me. I believe that performances are the most special things that can only happen because of the fans who come to see us. Therefore, those who come to see us are the true protagonists of the stage, and we create the performance together. I always tell this to our fans. I think the current VVS is made up of people who show the hottest energy. Yeonggwang: We give positive energy to our fans through music, and in return, they give us love and support, which allows us to deliver great performances. While every fan is memorable, I want to express my gratitude to those who have stayed by our side from our debut until now. I hope we can continue to share our time together for a long time and become a source of strength for each other. I love you, VVS.
Davide:Thank you so much for having this new interview with me, I appreciate it! I look forward to chatting again next time and hopefully to seeing you face-to-face soon! Please hit me up when you are coming to London! 화이팅! Thank you so much.
