8TURN Exclusive Interview: A Journey of Growth, From Debut to ‘LEGGO’

8TURN (에잇턴) has been absolutely KILLING IT with their explosive energy and undeniable talent since their debut with ‘TIC TAC’ in ‘8TURNRISE’!

From those early days to their latest banger, ‘LEGGO,’ which dropped on March 4th, these eight talented members—Jae Yun, Myungho, Minho, Yoonsung, Haemin, Kyungmin, Yungyu, and Seungheon—have been on an incredible journey.
I’ve been following them since day one and watching them grow has been seriously awesome.

Now, with ‘LEGGO’ fresh on the scene and their first world tour on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to dive in and get to know them even better.
Let’s chat about their journey, their dreams, and all the excitement surrounding their new release. But first, a quick hello from 8TURN themselves…

Davide: Hello 8TURN! I’m Davide. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. How are you all doing today? Could you please introduce yourselves one by one to our readers? Including a fun fact or something unique about yourselves that TURNING might not know yet.
MYUNG HO: Hey, TURNING!! It’s sexy guy MyungHo 🐯
One special thing about me is that I’m just way too cute! Haha
JAE YUN: Hey guys! My name is Jae Yun. It’s a pleasure to meet you all! Recently, I’ve been obsessed with matcha! I’ve always enjoyed it, but for some reason, I feel the need to get myself a matcha latte once a day.
MIN HO: Hi, I’m Minho, also known as the ‘tofu-faced’ member of 8TURN! These days, we’re busy with promotions, and since this is our first single, I’m making great memories with TURNING.
YOON SUNG: Hi, I’m Yoonseong from 8TURN! Since we’re in our promotion period, I’ve been performing on music shows every day and feeling so grateful for TURNING’s support. Each day has been really fulfilling! But lately, I feel like I’ve gained a bit of weight… so I think I need to start losing it a little… 😭
KYUNG MIN: Hi, I’m KyungMin from 8TURN! We made our comeback on March 4th with our single album LEGGO and have been busy with promotions. Here’s a fun fact that TURNING might not know—I’m most confident in playing table tennis! I’ve never taken lessons, but I’ve been playing on my own for a long time, so I’m pretty good at it!
HAE MIN: Hi, I’m Haemin from 8TURN! People often think INFPs are soft and gentle, but a fun fact about me is that despite being an INFP, I’m actually bold and strong!
YUN GYU: Hi!! I’m Yungyu from 8TURN! These days, we’ve been busy promoting our first single LEGGO on music shows. Here’s a fun fact that TURNING might not know—most people have noticed that I have a tear mole, but did you know I actually have two? Next time you see me, take a closer look at my eyes!
SEUNG HEON: Hi, I’m Seungheon, the maknae (the youngest member) of 8TURN! These days, I’ve been having an amazing time with TURNING while promoting LEGGO. Our comeback was on March 4th, and funny enough, it happened to be the same day my school semester started… so right now, I’m balancing both school and promotions!

Davide: 8TURN is a unique name. What’s the story behind it, and how did the group form?
8TURN: 8turn is a mixture of the number 8 representing the 8 members and the infinite possibilities and potential we have (we view the number 8 as an infinity sign as well) and the word turn as in “our turn” to show the world who we are.

Davide: LEGGO is out, and I’ve been loving it! I’m really curious about the overall concept and what message you’re hoping to share with this single album.
8TURN: Thank you!! Our title track LEGGO is an old-school-inspired song based on new jack swing, bursting with bold energy and confidence as we shout “LEGGO” over and over. On the other hand, I Want You Now, which is the second track, has a completely different charm—it leans more towards easy listening, making it a song you can enjoy anytime. From the album cover to the overall concept, this single album really captures 8TURN’s refreshing yet high-energy vibe. Personally, while LEGGO
is undeniably hip and powerful, I still feel that signature refreshing side of 8TURN shining through!

Davide: Let’s discuss the lead single, “LEGGO”. YUN GYU and SEUNG HEON, congratulations on co-writing the track! What was the lyric-writing process like, and is there a story behind the song you’d like to share?
YUN GYU: When I first heard the demo, I instantly loved the accents and the way each part flowed. I wanted to make sure that the lyrics allowed us to keep that same feeling when performing. I also tried to write in a way that our confidence could be felt naturally, without having to state it outright. I’m not sure if this counts as a special story, but the line ‘Everybody looking at me’ at the start of the chorus came to me the moment I heard the demo—it just stuck in my head right away!
SEUNG HEON: In our music video, you’ll see that it starts with a flyer looking for ‘fancy kids.’ The twist is that those fancy kids turn out to be 8TURN. We wanted to reflect that message in the lyrics as well, emphasising that we are the fancy kids. So, we made sure to write lyrics that are full of confidence, making sure our energy and boldness come through in the song.

Davide: ‘I Want You Now’ is another great track. What message were you aiming to convey with this B-side, and what led to its inclusion on the album?
8TURN: ‘I Want You Now’ has a warm and lovely mood, making it a perfect song for spring. It carries the heartfelt words of a confident yet innocent boy, boldly declaring, “I need you right now.” At first, we planned to release ‘LEGGO’ as a single track, but we thought it would be nice to include another song that fits the season and is easy to listen to. That’s how we ended up adding a second track to the album!

Davide: The LEGGO music video is fantastic! The retro hip-hop vibe is really cool. Are there any memorable behind-the-scenes stories you’d like to share?
MYUNG HO: We filmed for 15 hours in freezing -13°C weather while wearing short-sleeved crop tops.
It was extremely cold, but I’m really happy with how it turned out!
JAE YUN: I think the most unforgettable moment during the music video shoot would have to be the weather. Korea was surprisingly pretty warm for winter, but when the day came for our music video shoot, it suddenly dropped to -14°C. Our outfits were all summery clothing, even rash guards that are superb at cooling, so it felt like we were shooting inside a refrigerator.
MIN HO: We filmed at a subway station, and I’ve always thought it would be fun to jump over the turnstiles, like in the movies. I never actually tried it before, but during the shoot, I got to do it as much as I wanted—it was a lot of fun!
YOON SUNG: It was freezing during the shoot, with temperatures dropping to -10°C. Unfortunately, my outfit was short sleeves and shorts, so to survive the cold, I rolled up a pair of long pyjama pants and stuffed them inside my shorts. It’s a funny but slightly sad memory. 😂
KYUNG MIN: “We filmed for about three days without much sleep, and as a result, my face gradually lost its puffiness. By the time we shot the final scene, all the swelling was gone, and I ended up looking incredibly sharp!
HAE MIN: I jumped on a trampoline on a rooftop, and since it was a cold day, the chilly wind went right through my shorts—it was freezing! And maybe because we were on a rooftop, but it felt even higher than I thought!
YUN GYU: I thought it would be warmer by the time we started filming as the weather had been gradually getting milder, but suddenly, it turned cold again, and we ended up shooting on what was probably the coldest day of 2025! It was really freezing, but the cold couldn’t stop our passion. We pushed through and successfully finished the shoot!
SEUNG HEON: In our music video, there’s a scene where we spray paint on an acrylic panel. But I messed up while spraying, so we ended up using multiple panels because of me… haha!

Davide: How does “LEGGO” differ from your previous work like “TIC TAC” and “RU-PUM PUM’ “? What new aspects of 8TURN can we expect to see in your new album?
8TURN: I feel like we became more 8TURN than we were, thanks to the survival show Road to Kingdom. Competing on the program was a great opportunity for us to realise what our strengths are and what makes us unique as a K-pop group. Since this album is our first official release after the show, it’s the most 8TURN-esque album out of all the ones we’ve put out so far. All the lessons and experiences we gained from the program are reflected in this album. But this is only the beginning of a new chapter for 8TURN, so please be on the lookout for how we continue to grow as a team and as individuals.

Davide: Thinking back to ‘TIC TAC’ from your debut EP, 8TURNRISE, and seeing where you are now with ‘LEGGO,’ how do you feel your journey has evolved?
I’ve been following you closely since your debut, and ‘TIC TAC’ is still a staple on my playlist while I working out at the gym!
MYUNG HO: Wowww, first of all, thank you so much for loving ‘TIC TAC’ and listening to it often! If I had to say what has changed since then, I think the biggest difference is that we’ve gained a lot more experience on stage, which has given us more confidence and a better sense of performance. Also, our passion for the stage and our desire to create even better performances have grown stronger and stronger over time.
JAE YUN: This sort of goes back to the previous question, but we have grown so much as a team and as individuals. To be honest, when we just debuted, we didn’t really have a sense of ownership in our craft. Looking back, it felt like we were on autopilot, just doing what was expected as generic K-pop idols. But now, we can proudly say that we have ownership of our craft, and it feels like we are the pilots of our own plane. That makes us even more excited and thrilled for the future ahead of us.
MIN HO: I think we’ve become more relaxed overall. We still feel like rookies at heart, but our skills have improved a lot, so the time it takes for us to prepare for something has become much shorter compared to before.
YOON SUNG: OMG, thank you so much!! 😭 We’ll keep bringing you more high-energy songs that are perfect for workouts! Lately, since we’re in the middle of promotions, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we’ve been running this journey consistently and continue to move forward. I feel like more and more TURNINGs are joining us, and more people are starting to recognise us. Plus, I think we’ve finally learned how to truly enjoy being on stage. That’s why we’re even more excited to keep showing you great music and amazing performances!
KYUNG MIN: First of all, thank you for loving TIC TAC! Looking back, from our first album to our LEGGO promotions, we’ve showcased a lot of energetic vibes through hip-hop, retro, young, and kitschy styles. That’s probably why many of our songs are great to listen to while working out! Haha
HAE MIN: We’ve always stayed consistent in our efforts and worked hard to deliver the best performances—we take pride in that. Our journey so far could feel long or short depending on how you look at it, but one thing we’ve always focused on is showing unwavering dedication on stage.
YUN GYU: It’s truly an honour!! TIC TAC is a song that all of us love and cherish as well. When I think back to that time, I can really see how much we’ve changed and grown. Each of our roles has become clearer, and we’ve been able to take on parts that highlight our strengths even more. If ‘TIC TAC’ captured the fearless passion and playful energy of rookies, then ‘LEGGO’ shows a more confident and powerful side of 8TURN—one that builds on everything we’ve learned and pushes us even higher. And of course, ‘LEGGO’ is definitely a great song to listen to while working out!
SEUNG HEON: You’ve definitely noticed it well! Our team has always focused on energetic and hip tracks, and looking at our journey from ‘TIC TAC’ to ‘LEGGO’, I think the biggest change has been gaining more finesse. We still bring the same high energy, but now, each member’s individual charm and maturity shine through even more than before.

Davide: Congratulations on your 1st World Tour, 8TURNRISE! What are you most looking forward to and what can fans expect from it?
MYUNG HO: Since this is our very first tour, I’m beyond excited and can’t wait for it to begin! I’m especially looking forward to experiencing the energy of our overseas TURNINGs. Plus, you’ll get to see a side of 8TURN that you’ve never seen before—so make sure to look forward to it!
JAE YUN: First of all, since this is our second time going to the US, we can’t wait to meet all the TURNINGs waiting for us there. Also, I think it’s going to be an eye-opening experience for all of us and a great learning opportunity—similar yet different to Road to Kingdom. Instead of thinking about the sales and all that, we’re going to focus more on our performance and the valuable lessons we’ll take back home after this month-and-a-half journey.
MIN HO: What I’m looking forward to the most on this tour is TURNING’s energy. We performed in the U.S. once before, and I still can’t forget the incredible energy from our TURNINGs there. That’s why I’m so, so excited for this tour!
YOON SUNG: I’m most excited about the energy and enthusiasm of our TURNINGs in the U.S.! When we first went to LA KCON two years ago, I was blown away by the incredible energy of our U.S. TURNINGs, and I can’t wait to feel that excitement again at our very own concert!
KYUNG MIN: This is our first overseas tour, so I feel a mix of excitement and nerves, but honestly, the excitement outweighs the worries. I’m excited at the thought of performing in new surroundings and sharing the stage with diverse people. And TURNINGs will also get to see a side of 8TURN that they haven’t seen before!
HAE MIN: You’ll get to experience both the performances you’ve seen before and completely new ones, but in a way that feels even more immersive and full of energy!
YUN GYU: Thank you!! Since this is our first tour, it still doesn’t feel real yet, but what I’m most excited about is traveling to different places and meeting so many new TURNINGs to share amazing moments together! We’re preparing everything we can to put on the best performances, and we truly hope to create unforgettable memories for all of you!
SEUNG HEON: What I’m looking forward to the most is definitely TURNINGs’ energy. When we went to KCON LA 2023, I got to experience just how incredible that energy was, and now, knowing that even more people will be coming to our own concert, I’m already so excited to perform! TURNINGs, you can look forward to stages and sides of us that you’ve never seen before—so please stay excited!

Davide: Which are some of the artists who inspire you? They can be in or outside of K-pop.
MYUNG HO: I don’t think I draw inspiration from just one specific artist—rather, I get inspired and motivated by all the artists who are actively promoting right now!
JAE YUN: Personally, the singer who recently inspired me was Lady Gaga. Her new album really blew me away. As a kid who grew up listening to and dancing to the albums ‘Born This Way’ and ‘The Fame Monster’, her new album sparked a new flame in my heart. It would be my dream to sing a song with her.
MIN HO: Personally, I really love R&B, and I listen to Dean’s songs a lot. One day, I’d love to release my own solo track in the R&B genre!
YOON SUNG: Personally, I’ve been deeply inspired by IU lately. Her music is amazing on its own, but she has also shown incredible performances in acting through recent dramas. Seeing how she positively influences so many people in different ways made me realise what a true entertainer she is.
It inspired me to become that kind of artist as well.
KYUNG MIN: I’m a huge fan of One Direction. Before going on stage, I have a routine where I listen to my favourite songs, and I often choose One Direction’s music. It gives me energy and helps me focus better on my performance.
HAE MIN: My role model since childhood has been V from BTS. I’ve always looked up to him, and it was thanks to him that I even dreamed of becoming an idol. I really admire his stage presence, expressions, and performance skills, and I aspire to be like him.
YUN GYU: I’ve been really enjoying Jennie’s new album lately! As for my personal music taste, I often listen to artists like Keshi, d4vd, and Kali Uchis, and I find a lot of inspiration from their music.
SEUNG HEON: I personally get a lot of influence from Zico! Not only is his rap skill incredible, but his songwriting abilities are also outstanding. Since I have a strong interest in writing lyrics, there’s so much I can learn from him, and I feel like he has had the biggest impact on me.

Davide: If given the opportunity, which artist would you dream of collaborating with? The artist can be Korean or international.
MYUNG HO: If I ever get the chance, I’d love to collaborate with Justin Bieber on ‘Beauty and a Beat’
JAE YUN: Internationally, I think my previous answer would suffice, so if I were to choose someone nationally, it would have to be Taeyeon from SNSD. Her way of storytelling in her songs is truly astounding. I feel like she is an amazing storyteller. Although she doesn’t write her own songs, when she’s singing them, she’s telling the story as if she’s reflecting on her past. And that is something I would love to learn from her.
MIN HO: I’d love to collaborate with other idols on stage performance-wise, and personally, since I enjoy R&B as I mentioned earlier, I’d also love to work with R&B artists someday.
YOON SUNG: There’s a sunbaenim artist I’ve musically admired for a long time! I really love WOODZ’s voice and his style of music, and I’ve always wanted to collaborate with him someday.
KYUNG MIN: I’m most confident in R&B as a genre, so I’d love to collaborate with Lauv and create a laid-back song together!
HAE MIN: I’m really into fashion, so I’d love to share inspiration with Pharrell and NIGO—not just in fashion, but musically as well!
YUN GYU: If I get the chance, I’d love to work with Giriboy! As I mentioned earlier, I also hope to collaborate with Keshi someday.
SEUNG HEON: I’m a huge fan of the Korean artist ASH ISLAND! He’s someone I personally really want to collaborate with in the future.

Davide: Do you have any special hobbies or activities you enjoy in your spare time? What helps you unwind when you are not working?
MYUNG HO: I usually relax and relieve stress by either playing games, sleeping, working out, or eating my favourite food while watching fun dramas.
JAE YUN: I’m the epitome of a homebody, so all I do is stay in bed all day during my day off. But I enjoy watching movies and swimming. Recently, I got hooked on rock climbing.
MIN HO: I really enjoy riding my bike along the Han River while listening to music. I’m definitely planning to go once the weather warms up. Also, lately, I feel like I’ve been away from my bed too much, so I’d love to spend some more time just lounging in bed.
YOON SUNG: I tend to fill my happiness by eating delicious food, so whenever I have time, I go to great places just to enjoy the food I crave! When I’m stressed, I sometimes read books to clear my mind, and when I want to empty my thoughts, I usually exercise
KYUNG MIN: When I’m not busy, I enjoy walking around and exploring pretty shops and streets. When I am busy, I just listen to my favorite songs, and that helps me relieve stress!
HAE MIN: My favourite hobby is watching sports, and my top choice is soccer. When I’m watching it alone in bed, I get really focused and often feel like I’m back in my childhood.
YUN GYU: When I’m not in a promotion period, I usually go play basketball or game at home. When I’m in the middle of promotions, I mostly read books! I can read anywhere, and it helps me relax and sleep better!
SEUNG HEON: Recently, I’ve become more interested in food while dieting. The happiness I feel when eating something delicious is beyond words, and I think I relieve some stress through food!

Davide: If you had a superpower, what would that be and why?
MYUNG HO: I wish I had the ability to teleport, so I could just snap my fingers after my schedule and instantly be at home—it would be amazing!
JAE YUN: It would definitely be transportation. I’d want to go home quickly from any situation.
MIN HO: My superpower would be teleportation. Of course, it would be great to go home right after work, but since I’m a romantic at heart, I’d love to teleport to places like Switzerland or anywhere I love, get some fresh air, and come back instantly.
YOON SUNG: I would definitely choose teleportation. Seoul has a large population, so traffic is always heavy, and every time that happens, I just wish I could activate teleportation and go straight to my destination!
KYUNG MIN: I would love to have telekinesis! Haha, the reason is that the motion looks really cool, and it would be great to grab things without having to get up when I’m feeling lazy!
HAE MIN: My superpower would be the ability to capture people’s attention. It’s because what 8TURN desires the most is ‘attention’!!
YUN GYU: I would love to have teleportation! I want to travel freely anywhere! Of course, if that happens, I probably won’t be walking anymore, so I guess I’d need to focus more on cardio exercise!
SEUNG HEON: I don’t need some extraordinary power, but there’s a simple ability I really wish I had. I wish that with just a snap of my fingers, my body would be instantly clean. After coming back to my place from work, I find it so tiring to have to wash up.

Davide: Do you have a special message for TURNING, your fans?
MYUNG HO: TURNING, thank you so much for always being by our side and giving us such overwhelming love, support, and energy! We’re so grateful to be having our first tour! Please look forward to it a lot, and we love you so much!
JAE YUN: To all the TURNINGs, your support, even just saying a simple ‘I love you,’ means so much not only to me but to all of 8TURN members. Thank you so much for all the unconditional love and support you give us. We can’t wait to show you new music, so please just hold on tight, and hopefully, we’ll get to see you all around the world in the future!
MIN HO: TURNING, thank you so much for loving our song ‘LEGGO’! We’ll keep working hard to be the kind of artists who exceed your expectations. I hope you’ll continue to stay by our side for a long time.
YOON SUNG: TURNING!! We’re working hard on our ‘LEGGO’ promotions, so please support us a lot! After the promotions end, we’ll be going on our first tour, so for the TURNINGs we meet at the concerts, let’s have an amazing time together! Love you 🤎
KYUNG MIN: I can’t wait to meet K-pop fans all around the world and share our performances with you! That’s why we’re planning to go on an overseas tour, and I’m so excited to visit more countries and finally meet TURNINGs everywhere!
HAE MIN: To all the TURNINGs who are always waiting and longing to see us, 8TURN wants to reach out and connect with you no matter where you are! We’re always working hard, so one day, the day we meet will definitely come! We’ll be waiting for that day!
YUN GYU: TURNING!! Thank you so much for always supporting us! Thanks to you, I feel like we’ve been able to create so many amazing memories with this album. Please look forward to our upcoming tour, and we hope you continue to support us and follow our journey ahead! Love you!
SEUNG HEON: Yes, TURNING, we’re currently promoting hard with our comeback song LEGGO, and I WANT YOU NOW, one of the tracks on the album, is also really great, so please listen to it a lot! We’re also looking forward to our first world tour, 8TURNRISE, in April, so please look forward to it!
Thank you!

Davide: Before leaving, I just wanted to wish Hae Min a happy belated birthday, since your bday was few days ago, on the 16th of March! 생일 축하해요
