Get ready, Europe! The dynamic Japanese boy group PSYCHIC FEVER is making their highly anticipated first-ever European fan meeting tour, the PSYCHIC FEVER FIRST EUROPE FANMEET, this July. Fans can catch them in Berlin on July 11th at Metropol and in London on July 13th at EartH. Following the incredible buzz from their previous London Meet & Greet, where over 500 fans showed up, the group is clearly pumped to connect with their European ForEVERs in an even more intimate setting. Ahead of these exciting dates, we had the fantastic opportunity to chat with PSYCHIC FEVER about the upcoming fan meeting and what they’ve been up to with their latest music.
For those new to their world, PSYCHIC FEVER is a seven-member Japanese boy band under LDH JAPAN, part of the powerhouse EXILE TRIBE collective. Known for their electrifying synergy, they seamlessly blend dynamic dance, powerful vocals, sharp rap, and impressive beatboxing into their performances. With a unique energy and multilingual charisma, they’ve been building a strong global fanbase with emotionally charged music and viral tracks like “Gelato” and “Just Like Dat,” consistently pushing boundaries and transcending genres.
And before diving into the interview, let’s hear it from PSYCHIC FEVER, they have a very special message for all of you!
Davide: Hello PSYCHIC FEVER! I’m Davide. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview and it’s very nice to meet you. How are you all doing today? Could you please introduce yourselves one by one to our readers? Including a fun fact or something unique about yourselves that ForEVER might not know yet.
PSYCHIC FEVER: Hi! We’re doing well.
TSURUGI: I’m Tsurugi and a fun fact about me is I love wearing my cowboy hat. It’s my signature accessory.
REN: Hi, I’m Ren, and a fun fact about me is that I love ramen! However, I don’t really like chashu that much and would prefer the noodles over them.
RYUSHIN: Hello, I’m Ryushin, and a fun fact is that I am the most social media savvy out of all the members.
JIMMY: Hey, I’m Jimmy! A fun fact about me is that I love streetwear and fashion– I help design clothes for our own apparel brand “P.C.F. Apparel!”
WEESA: Hi, I’m Weesa, and a fun fact is that I love art and hope to hold my own exhibition someday.
RYOGA: Hi, I’m Ryoga! My fun fact is that I love researching home appliances and am very knowledgeable about them.
KOKORO: Hey, I’m Kokoro, and my fun fact is that I am a breakdancer and have been one since elementary school.
Davide: Let’s jump right into your new single, “Gelato”! What can you tell us about this song? What was the inspiration behind it, and what kind of vibe are you hoping to share with fans with this track?
RYOGA: “Gelato” is about summertime and the type of love that reminds you of a warm summer day. It’s really inspired by the joy you feel during summer and the melody and lyrics are meant to remind you of a beautiful summer’s day spent with the people you love.
Davide: The music video for “Gelato” is such a vibe! What was the most fun part to record? Do you have any special message you want to deliver with the video?
RYUSHIN: We enjoyed recording the music video in Okinawa, it is such a beautiful place, and shooting the video there was super fun! It had the perfect tropical vibe to fit with the theme of the song. We really wanted the video and song to show the world that we can make great music in both Japanese and English.
Davide: I love Okinawa, I’ve been there in 2019 and I felt in love with the place and the people!
Davide: “Gelato” is part of your new album, PSYCHIC FILE III. Could you give us an overview of the album’s overall concept and message? What journey can fans expect to embark on as they listen to the entire PSYCHIC FILE III?
JIMMY: The new album is an overall mix of all the tracks that got us here. We really want fans to really feel the emotions of the journey that got us and them to where we are now. It bounces back to back from high energy to ballads and really, I think we’re just trying to reflect what life is really like into our music.
Davide: How does PSYCHIC FILE III and specifically “Gelato” differentiate itself from your previous work like “What’s Happening” and “Paradise”? What new aspects or evolution of PSYCHIC FEVER can we expect to see and hear in this latest release?
WEESA: ‘Gelato’ is a summer tune that makes you want to dance, and it has mostly English lyrics, whereas ‘What’s Happening’ is a more hip-hop inspired track that shows off our Japanese lyricism. ‘Paradise’ is definitely the most heartfelt of the songs, the whole EP shows off the evolution of our band and the many genres we can blend together on a single project.
Davide: Are there any specific B-side tracks on PSYCHIC FILE III that you’re particularly excited for fans to hear, or that hold a special meaning for the members?
KOKORO: We think that fans will really enjoy “Promise!” Different from the more adult-like charisma of the other tracks, the lyrics in “Promise” describe a refreshing summer date that is perfect for the season. It’s all in English too, so fans all over the world can join in and sing along.
Davide: Congratulations on your first fanmeets in Europe, touching down in Berlin and and then London! What are your initial feelings and what are you most looking forward to about meeting your European fans for the first time?
REN: We are so excited to meet our European forEVERS for the first time very soon! We’re looking forward to meeting all the people who have supported us this far in our journey and thanking them for all they do for us. We can’t wait to meet them all and hang out for the first time.
Davide: Besides performing in London and Berlin, are you guys planning to do any sightseeing or explore the cities? What are you most excited to see or experience in Europe? (And seriously, hit me up if you need recommendations in London!)
TSURUGI: We’re hoping to visit a lot more places this time than the last. As we came to London during winter time last time, we’re hoping to experience a different charm of London as we head into the summer! We’re also excited to visit different markets and try out more street foods in Europe.
Davide: Speaking of “Gelato,” as an Italian, I have to ask: do you have a favourite gelato flavour? And have you had a chance to try any Italian gelato yet?
RYUSHIN: Vanilla is one of my favorites back home. I haven’t had the chance yet but I’m hoping to try a new flavor here.
Davide: Which artists, both within and outside of J-Pop, inspire you as a group or individually?
KOKORO: Some of the artists that really inspire us are Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, EXILE Atsushi, Koji Tamaki, G-Eazy, and Stray Kids.
Davide: Beyond your music, do you have any special hobbies or activities you enjoy in your spare time? What helps you unwind when you are not working or touring?
JIMMY: We all spend our free time differently– for instance, KOKORO likes to go fishing on his day off, Ryoga might be cleaning his house, and Tsurugi might be out shopping for more cowboy hats! There are also times when we’d hang out and go for a quick meal. Vacationing really helps us take our mind off of things to better prepare for the next stage!
Davide: If each of you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
REN: Having the power to control thunder. Isn’t that cool? I’d be like Thor.
WEESA: Having the power to fly in the sky. It would be cool to feel the breeze while I traveled to places.
RYOGA: Reading minds. It would make communication much easier for me.
TSURUGI: Teleporting so I can get to places faster.
KOKORO: The power to communicate with animals. I’m always wondering what they’re thinking…
JIMMY: Teleporting. It’d make traveling so much more convenient.
RYUSHIN: Tough choice, but I think I’d want to read minds as well. I want to know what people would say about me.
Davide: Do you have a special message you’d like to share with your fans, especially those who will be attending your first European fanmeets?
WEESA: Hi European ForEVERs! We are super excited that you’re coming to see us, and we can’t wait to perform for you guys. Thank you so much for your support and see you soon!
Davide: That’s all for today guys! Thank you so much for this and I look forward to seeing you in London!
