K-pop sensation WONHO is back and better than ever with his latest single, “Better Than Me.” From his flourishing solo career, WONHO has consistently proven himself a powerhouse in the K-pop industry.

WONHO embarked on a highly anticipated solo journey, debuting in 2020 with the EP “Love Synonym Pt. 1: Right for Me.” This marked a new chapter where he truly blossomed as a singer-songwriter and producer, showcasing his unique musical vision and cementing his identity as a solo artist. His viral debut single, “Open Mind,” quickly became a fan favourite, highlighting his diverse artistic range.
Over the years, WONHO’s solo work has garnered significant international recognition, consistently topping charts and earning him a dedicated global fanbase, affectionately known as WENEE.
Beyond his impressive vocal abilities, sharp dance skills, and contributions to his discography, WONHO is equally celebrated for his genuine, positive, and humble personality, fostering a remarkably close bond with his fans.
I recently had the incredible opportunity to sit down with WONHO to delve into the inspiration behind his latest track, “Better Than Me,” discuss the music video, and get an exclusive peek into his exciting upcoming projects. Of course, no interview would be complete without a few fun questions to truly get to know him better!
Davide: Hello WONHO! I’m Davide, it’s very nice to meet you! Thank you for taking the time for this interview. Congratulations on your new digital single ‘Better Than Me’! How are you doing today? Keeping well?
WONHO: I’ve been very busy with all the preparations for my new single but I’m feeling happy!
Davide: Tell us about your new digital single, ‘Better Than Me.’ What was your inspiration for this song, and what message do you hope WENEE (your fans) take away from it?
WONHO: “Better Than Me” is a fun song that reminds me of the boy bands of the early 2000s. I’ve always liked songs from that era so this track was fun to work on and I think it suits my vocal tone well. This song is about feeling confident so I hope it makes WENEE feel good and energised!
Davide: The music video for ‘Better Than Me’ is incredible, especially the choreography! What was it like filming the video? Do you have a favourite part from the music video?
WONHO: It’s always hard work to film music videos so “Better Than Me” was no exception. The weather was hot and it took a lot of energy filming the choreography scenes but I really enjoyed it. My favourite part is the scene when I’m sitting on the hood of the car while the sun is setting because I think it came out well visually.
Davide: How does ‘Better Than Me’ compare to your past songs like ‘Open Mind,’ ‘CRAZY,’ ‘BLUE’ or ‘Eye On You’?
WONHO: I think “Better Than Me” is a song that shows my vocal color and style well. It’s an all English track so I focused on perfecting my vocals and pronunication.
Davide: Out of all your music in your career, do you have a favorite song, era, or concept? And Why?
WONHO: I really enjoyed “Open Mind” because I feel like the song and concept all fit me very well, but of course I love my latest track “Better Than Me” since it’s what I’m currently focusing on.
Davide: You’ve been working in the industry for many years, and you started your solo career in 2020. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
WONHO: The biggest lesson I’ve learned is definitely to take care of your health. Health is the most important thing!
Davide: You finished your US tour in December, and you’ll be performing in South America soon. How are you getting ready for this new tour?
WONHO: My fans in South America have been waiting for a long time so I want to show them my best performance! I’m practicing a lot and making sure to take care of my body in order to stay healthy for the tour.
Davide: I have to ask, will you be coming back to Europe soon? I was at your show in London a few years ago, and it was amazing to see you perform!
WONHO: Of course, I hope to be back in Europe soon! It’s been a few years since I’ve seen WENEE in Europe so I hope to go again soon. Thank you for coming to see me last time!
Davide: Do you have any favourite songs to perform live on stage?
WONHO: I think my favourite is always my most recent release so right now it’s “Better Than Me”. I’m excited to perform it for my fans!
Davide: What’s the most challenging choreography for you to perform live?
WONHO: The most challenging choreography is also the most recent song I’m working on since it’s the one I have to practice the most. Right now it would be “Better Than Me.”
Davide: You have an amazing physique! I love working out too, and I try to train every day. Do you have a favourite exercise or body part you like to train the most? My favourite exercises are for the chest and back.
WONHO: Currently I like working on my abs. Strengthening my abs helps me with any back pain I have too.
Davide: What song are you currently listening to on repeat while you’re exercising?
WONHO: I listen to the songs I’m currently working on for my album! I listen to them throughout the day to make sure these are the songs I want to share with my fans.
Davide: You used to share a lot of workout videos, and I even used some of your exercises in my routine! Can we expect new workout videos or more fitness tips from you?
WONHO: I don’t know if I can share a lot of new tips or workouts but I’m consistently working on my body and health to show you the best side of me.
Davide: After a good workout, we all need a good meal! What’s your favourite food these days? Is ramen still your favourite?
WONHO: I still love ramen! It’s definitely my favourite. There’s also a very spicy kind of kimchi called silbi kimchi. I love eating it with my ramen lately.
Davide: What’s one thing you wish people knew about you?
WONHO: I think my fans actually know more about me than I know about myself sometimes! I show my fans my true self so I think they know a lot about me.
Davide: Do you have any special message for WENEE around the world?
WONHO: Thank you for always showing me so much love and support. I hope you all enjoy my new track “Better Than Me” and please stay tuned for my tour!
Davide: You just released a new digital single, but I’m sure WENEE are curious if there’s more music coming soon. Can you give us any hints about a new full-length album or EP?
WONHO: I’m working on my album and I hope to share it with WENEE soon! I’m working on a lot of different tracks and styles so please look forward to it.
