The Japanese music scene has a brilliant new fixture in the sky. Born from the fires of BMSG’s high-stakes audition project THE LAST PIECE, the five-member dance and vocal group STARGLOW have officially made their highly anticipated debut. Comprising RUI, TAIKI, KANON, GOICHI, and ADAM, the group is the latest major act to emerge from the visionary mind of Japanese artist and CEO SKY-HI. However, STARGLOW is anything but “typical.” They arrive with a sophisticated, refined edge—blending sharp musical instincts with an effortless charisma that has already earned them the title of next-generation heartthrobs to watch.
The group’s momentum began well before their official debut. In September 2025, their pre-debut single “Moonchaser” rocketed to #7 on the Billboard JAPAN Hot 100, proving that the public was more than ready for their arrival. Now, with their official debut single “Star Wish”, the quintet has sharpened their identity through a global collaboration of the highest calibre. Co-written by SKY-HI alongside two-time Grammy nominee David Arkwright and solo artist Will Jay, the track offers an emotional yet polished soundscape that captures the all-or-nothing devotion of chasing a dream finally within reach.
What makes STARGLOW unique is the almost miraculous fusion of its members. From the seasoned artistry of BMSG veterans like RUI and TAIKI to the fresh, vibrant energy of KANON, GOICHI, and ADAM, each member brings a distinctive style that refuses to be overshadowed. Together, they embody the BMSG ideal: individual quality, a bold attitude, and an undeniable aura. As they set out to conquer global stages, STARGLOW isn’t just reaching for the stars—they have become them. We sat down with the group to discuss the stories behind “Star Wish”, their personal musical inspirations, and the songs that define their journey so far.

Davide: こんにちは STARGLOW! It is a pleasure to meet you. Huge congratulations on your official debut! To start, could each member please introduce yourself and share one “shining” quality or hobby that makes you unique?
STARGLOW:
KANON: Hi, my name is KANON, and I have a low-key voice. Nice to meet you!
RUI: Hi, my name is RUI! I have a good fashion style. Nice to meet you!
TAIKI: Hello, I’m TAIKI. I have everyone smile! (The group laughs together! TAIKI was right!)
ADAM: Hi, I’m Adam. My point is the rock style voice! Nice to meet you!
GOICHI: Hi, I’m GOICHI! My point is this voice!
Davide: Your pre-debut single “Moonchaser” was a massive success, hitting #7 on the Billboard JAPAN Hot 100. Did you expect such an explosive reaction so early on? How did that success change your mindset for the official debut?
ADAM: We were very grateful for the results of hitting number 7 on the Billboard JAPAN Hot 100. We wanted to chase first, but we understand that the result is not always everything. We really wanted to get first, and we wanted to be more ambitious about the ranking.
Davide: You are off to a great start! Well done! Your debut single, “Star Wish”, is a beautiful, emotional track. How would you describe the “colour” or the “vibe” of this song to someone who is listening to STARGLOW for the first time?
RUI: This is a debut song for sure, but this is also a love song. That’s why we would like to deliver this song to other people for their loved ones. The choreography is also beautiful, so overall it’s a very beautiful and great song.
Davide: It’s a very beautiful song, and for this release, Grammy-nominated producer David Arkwright and Will Jay worked on the track. How did you feel when you learned that a song created with such a global team would be your debut?
KANON: When we heard the first time that the song was going to be created by Grammy-nominated producers, we were really grateful and surprised. I personally like international music, and I already knew about them. I was so surprised, and I felt so happy for the opportunity.
Davide: Which song from your debut EP “Star Wish” would you recommend to a first-time listener?
TAIKI: I think “Love Myself ’26” is the song I would like fans to listen to because all the members have participated in creating the lyrics. It’s such a wonderful opportunity for all of us to be able to do that since our debut, which is really rare.
Davide: That’s amazing. I will definitely go back and listen to that song with a different mindset now. I am very happy to see you guys being involved so much in the creation of your songs already.
From your perspective, how does STARGLOW represent the “new generation” of Japanese dance and vocal groups?
RUI: We don’t only want to be the “new generation” of dance and vocal groups, but also carry the spirit of the classical dance and vocal groups.
STARGLOW is a group that feels more like a collective of solo artists. In the near future, we hope to release individual works and become more involved in creating our own music.
We aim to be a group with a strong sense of musical taste and artistry, while still remaining relatable and approachable to our fans.
Davide: You are definitely off to a great start, and it shows already, so well done, guys! I’d love to delve deeper into your personal musical tastes. Which artists—either Japanese or international—inspire you the most as individuals?
KANON: My inspiration is the Japanese artist SIRUP, who is an R&B singer in Japan. An artist who stays true to what he wants to create. To start off, his name, SIRUP, is a combination of “singer” and “rap,” and that’s really interesting. It also expresses his intention to move beyond genre boundaries. And also, SIRUP sometimes shares his point of view on politics, and that’s pretty new, especially in Japan, to have that mindset and musicality he has; it’s very inspirational to me.
GOICHI: The artist I get inspired by is ZORN, a Japanese rapper. I also do rap in this group. Not only are ZORN’s rap skills great, but his whole personality is inspirational to me. I recently went to his concert and was able to take a photo with him, and that was a very special moment.
RUI: Among many big artists, Tele’s music feels quite unique. His songs are very original, and in a way he’s also a rather abstract kind of artist. But at the same time, there’s something about his music that feels very relatable and naturally blends into everyday life.
For example, it reminds me of Koenji. It’s like the kind of music someone might be listening to while sitting around Koenji Station. The sound is easy for anyone to listen to, and it feels very close to the audience, yet there’s still a certain distance to it. I think that balance is what makes him such an appealing artist.
ADAM: There are 2 artists I get inspired by, one is ONE OK ROCK, a Japanese rock band, and my voice is very unique and has a rock kinda style. My roots in rock really come from their music. The other artist is KESHI, an American singer and songwriter and the way he describes the world via his music is very beautiful.
TAIKI: My favourite artist is PUNPEE, a Japanese rapper. I really like him because throughout his music, he shows the various types of rap styles, and he changed my perspective of rapping and what I can do.
Davide: Finally, do you have a message for your international fans who have been supporting you since the audition days?
GOICHI: To all the STARS who always support us, thank you so much for being with us!
We’ve only just begun our journey, but we hope to keep gaining momentum and chase many dreams from here on.
Please continue to support us — it truly means the world to us!
KANON: Thank you so much for listening to our song “Star Wish”, and we hope that we can go overseas from Japan, and we wanna meet you guys soon, thank you! Davide: That’s all for today, thank you so much, guys, for taking the time for this interview. I am enjoying your debut EP, and I cannot wait to see what STARGLOW will bring next! Thank you! ありがとう
